The walking is truly wonderful. You can access the majority of mountain walks near to the following villages: Periana, Alcaucin, Canillas de Acetuno, Sedella, Salares, Cannillas de Albaida, Competa, Frigiliana, Maro and Otivar (running from east to west).

El Pinarillo is a picnic area in the heart of the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park and a popular base for ramblers and walkers. It is situated about 5kms inland from the Nerja Caves and although the route up to El Pinarillo is an unmade road and a little rough in places, a 4×4 is not essential. Once at the picnic area, there is ample parking. From El Pinarillo, the world is your oyster as far as walking and exploring the countryside is concerned. Long walks, short walks, whatever you want, and the views are fabulous. Plenty of flora and fauna – masses of butterflies, especially in the Spring, birds, wild mountain goats, lizards, snakes, wild orchids and a host of other colourful wildflowers. Many walkers and ramblers start their day from el pinarillo being an ideal base to park up and use the facilities. The area is open from mid October through to early June. It is closed to vehicles in the summer months due to the potential fire risks and fires/barbeques are strictly not allowed during this period to prevent forest fires at a time when the countryside tends to be tinder dry. Bit still you are able to enter on foot, bicycle or horseback. El Pinarillo provides a gateway in to the National Park as there are many beautiful walks that can be taken from the area. We can provide guided walks that will take you into the mountains and valleys beyond exploring natural springs, cascading waterfalls and breath taking views. Walks can range from a few hours to all day depending on your ability
